Whether you are a visitor or a local resident, the AONB has much to offer. 

The quiet towns and villages, attractive countryside and unspoilt coast make it a popular holiday destination as well as a great place to live and work. There are many recreational opportunities and the area boasts a thriving economy. As we enjoy the area we need to tread lightly, as the AONB is a landscape to cherish and we can all play a part in helping to conserve this special place.

Landscapes of scenic beauty, that are relatively undeveloped, are often good for wildlife. One of the most noticeable features of the AONB is the richness of its wildlife habitats. Few places can match the sheer variety to be found here: heathland; reedbed; ancient woodland and modern commercial forestry; saltmarsh; estuaries; shingle beaches and crumbling sandy cliffs.

Whether you love nothing more than a long walk beside the sea, a brisk stroll before lunch, cycling along quiet lanes, sailing iconic estuaries, or spending hours quietly watching some of the UK's rarest wildlife, the beautiful landscape of the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has it all.

The statutory purpose of the AONB designation is to conserve and enhance natural beauty. Looking after an area the size of the AONB is of course beyond the scope of any one organisation. At 403 square kilometres in area, and stretching about 60 kilometres along the coast of Suffolk, working in partnership to care for the area is the only option.

Special Planning regulations exist within the AONB to protect its character.
